Wendy Ellerton
As a design practitioner and educator committed to lifelong learning. Her practice weaves together quantitative and qualitative realms, gathering and translating information, stories, and experiences into accessible forms. Wendy's practice is characterized by her expertise in collaborative and communication design and her ambition to engage in activities that are personally, professionally, and institutionally beneficial.
With over two decades of professional practice as a designer, learner, and teacher, Wendy's career forms a rich tapestry. A Masters Degree in Type Media from The Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands expanded her global network, fostering collaborations with renowned type foundries such as Hoefler & Co and House Industries. For nearly a decade she practised as a Communication Designer at prestigious studios like Hofstede Design and Studio Round honed her design skills, and ultimately helped crystallize the significance of process and relationships on what follows.
Teaching design masterclasses with AGDA, guiding Master's students at RMIT, mentoring design academics in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and engaging with students in Beijing and Italy have added breadth and depth to Wendy's pedagogical expertise. Further informing her pedagogical approach is her own educational journey that spans short courses, vocational training, tertiary, and postgraduate studies.
Wendy’s purpose-oriented ambition is evident in her work and its intersections with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Collaborating with the Monash University Climate Change Communication Research Hub (MUCCCH) and contributing to the Monash University inaugural AI in Education Learning Circle showcase her commitment. Embodied in her work is a belief in our capacity to make a difference, whether through subtle shifts or transformative changes. Wendy is currently in the final stages of completing a PhD at Monash University's Emerging Technologies / WonderLab.
Wendy serves as the program coordinator for the Collaborative Design specialization, Unit Coordinator, and Chief Examiner for Design Studio 1, where she ensures the curriculum supports the SDGs.
