Department of Psychiatry - Central
The Department of Psychiatry – Central, through our close clinical partners, is at the forefront of cutting-edge translational clinical research, medical student teaching, higher degree research, and delivery of innovative short courses and educational events in the area of mental health.
In the Department of Psychiatry Central we have over 100 staff and students, and our research programs cover all major sub-specialty fields of psychiatry across the lifespan with a focus on developing and implementing new and innovative treatments.
The Department of Psychiatry - central is part of the Central Clinical School.

Our Research
In the Department of Psychiatry - Central, we have clinical research groups based at Alfred Health, Epworth Health, Peninsula Health, and Cabrini Hospital. Our research is clinical in nature and aimed at developing new treatment avenues and new understanding with direct, effective, and immediate applications for people across the life spectrum.
Higher Degree Research and Honours opportunities
Our student supervisor team continues to identify opportunities to improve students’ learning experience. We strive to create a warm, interactive space for which students can be challenged, learn, and discover.
Education and teaching
We are responsible for the development and deliver of curriculum for the Medical Science and Medicine degree across the clinical sites in Victoria and Monash University – Malaysia. Find out more here...
Short courses
We run online and in person short courses in Women’s Mental Health and brain stimulation, as well as a range of educational workshops and events for students, clinicians and the public
Clinics
We deliver a number of innovative and professorial clinics including women’s mental health, peri-natal mental health and neuropsychology translating our cutting edge research into clinical treatment delivery
