The Department of Haematology is embodied by a vibrant collaborative team of clinicians, scientists and allied health professionals employed within Monash Health, Monash University and the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Together our research groups span the full spectrum of research from pre-clinical discovery through to early phase translation and late phase clinical trials and registry initiatives. Enabled by state-of-art facilities and clinical trial infrastructure within the Monash Health Precinct, our research program seeks to discover new treatments and provide cutting-edge therapeutics to our patients.

Our mission is to be at the forefront of scientific discovery, clinical translation, and best practice for patients with blood conditions to provide the best clinical outcomes.

Head of the Department

Prof Jake Shortt’s research at Monash University spans the full translational spectrum from discovery in the Blood Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory to clinical trials in the Monash Health Translation Precinct. He is the Clinical Director at Monash Health Haematology where he leads the myelodysplasia, T-cell lymphoma and chronic myeloid leukaemia disease streams and clinical trials.
