Research
Research within the Department of Haematology includes the study and treatment of ‘blood cancers’ (such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma) and non-cancerous disorders of the blood and bone marrow (including bleeding and thrombotic disorders and bone marrow failure syndromes). Our research also seeks to define the best practice in supporting patients with blood disorders, with a particular focus on blood transfusion practices.

The Blood Cancer Biomarkers Laboratory’s research interest is in the use of blood based molecular biomarkers to understand normal and malignant haematopoiesis.

Blood Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory's research seeks to evaluate novel ways to treat haematological malignancies, with a particular focus on leukaemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.

Our clinical trials unit delivers internationally recognised clinical research across blood cancers, benign haematology and advanced cellular therapies.
Leukaemia Modelling and Therapeutic Discovery
The Leukaemia Modelling and Therapeutic Discovery research group uses leukaemia modelling approaches to identify common molecular and biological dependencies of transformed myeloid cells, which may represent new therapeutic targets with broad applicability across diverse genetic subtypes.
Monash Haemostasis and Thrombosis Research Group
The Monash Haemostasis and Thrombosis Research group has expertise spanning venous and arterial thrombosis, bleeding disorders, fibrinolysis, haemoglobinopathies, haematology in critical care, immunohaematology, obstetric haematology and anticoagulation stewardship, reflecting the breadth of the haemostasis and thrombosis service and research within Monash Haematology.
Transfusion Research Unit (TRU)
TRU has expertise in transfusion medicine, haematology, epidemiology and registry science, and lead national and international clinical registries, clinical trials, health economics analysis and systematic reviews across a range of areas.
