Join a HSCU Short Course in 2023

Looking to enhance your practice in health and social care with some further training in 2023? Already enrolled in, or contemplating a Masters of Public Health and keen to get some credit points? Look no further – the Health and Social Care Unit’s (HSCU) short courses provide an array of possibilities for those looking to upskill or boost their current knowledge. And those willing to boost their learning can complete assessments to receive credit points towards a Masters of Public Health.

This year’s offerings include:

A number of these courses boast being the only of their kind, such as Program Development Using Intervention Mapping – the only micro-credentialed Intervention Mapping course in Australasia.

“Our course is a practical, hands-on program where participants are invited to come to the course with their own program idea/problem that they are wanting to address,” course facilitator Dr Claire Blewitt said.

“You will have the opportunity to learn from others working across health, education and social care. We brainstorm, discuss and workshop the projects that participants bring, offering you new insights and perspectives that you can take away,” Dr Blewitt said.

Another one-of-a-kind offering is ‘Engaging with Others to (re)Design Approaches to Health and Social Care, designed specifically for health and social care professionals interested in using co-design and other participatory approaches to enhance programs and interventions.

“Often providers will run courses on co-design or stakeholder engagement, but often learners come away with an understanding of just one way of engaging with people and not an appreciation of the many other different ways,” course facilitator Mitchell Bowden said.

“We talk about co-design and the evidence behind it, but we also talk about other ways to engage people, what is good practice engagement and what does poor engagement look like,” Mr Bowden said.

“Participants receive some practical steps to understand what engagement might look like for their project, right down to what activities you might include, what resources you might need, how to recruit people… participants leave with a toolkit for best practice engagement.”
