Take a deep dive into evidence-backed, successful program design
Boost your program design and problem solving skills this September with a one-of-a-kind course offering from the Health and Social Care Unit.
Program Development Using Intervention Mapping is the only micro-credentialled Intervention Mapping course in Australasia, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to apply the robust method to their upcoming work.
Running for a second year, the three-day online course walks students through a four-step framework that supports effective decision-making for planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs and is run by the HSCU’s Dr Mandy O’Connor and Dr Claire Blewitt.
“If you are looking to build a program for sustained, long-term change, that includes rich stakeholder involvement, Intervention Mapping is for you,” Dr Blewitt said.
“It provides a roadmap, a systematic approach, with proven tools and techniques to integrate into your program design and achieve your desired outcome.”
Dr Blewitt said the comprehensive framework required students to “deep dive” into the questions; “What is the problem we are trying to address, what change do we want to see, and how do we bring about that change?”.
“When you do dive deep, you can be really clear on what it is you are wanting to change, and what approaches are most likely to help you achieve that.”
Dr O’Connor said participants were encouraged to attend with a program idea or problem to work on during the course.
“Intervention Mapping is great for creative and concise decision making, and the depth of work involved is part of its appeal,” she said. “It combines theory, empirical research, and data from the community to lead from problem identification to problem solving.”
Dr O’Connor said the offering was “really exciting for those about to embark on a new project or program of work”.
“Students will come away with a really solid structure for what they’re hoping to achieve,” she said. “They can then go back and revisit each step of the process with their own teams and stakeholders, with the benefit of our templates and supporting information.”
Program Development Using Intervention Mapping will run on September 11–13 online via Zoom, with limited spaces available. Secure your place in this unique course offering here.
