Involving Lived Experience – Strengthening implEMentation Practice and Research with Equity (SEMPRE)
Ahlia is a Senior Project Officer for the Health and Social Care Unit (HSCU). She passionately strives to embed the voice of lived experience to strengthen implementation practice, and drive system‑level cultural change.
Ahlia centres the involvement of lived experience in all she does and sits on numerous state, national and international bodies focussed on strengthening this practice, such as Queensland Maternal and Perinatal Quality Council, and is the current Consumer Lead for the Maternity and Newborn Improvement team at Safer Care Victoria
Ahlia’s role on the SEMPRE project (funded through an inaugural Maureen Brunt Professorial Fellowship) enables her to share with the broader research team, the power of listening to and supporting community through the richness of story and sharing. Ahlia firmly believes that every voice deserves to not only be heard but also championed and is thrilled to be a part of a project that strengthens and supports this view.
Through this work the VILLAGE – Valued Individuals Living and Learning About Growing Equity - Health and Social Care Unit – was launched in 2024. An inclusive national network of parents and carers passionate about advancing equity in health, community and education. Through gathering the diverse voices of parents and carers nationally, Ahlia and the VILLAGE aim to influence real and meaningful change for all.
