Women’s preconception diet and physical activity behaviours: Unpacking barriers and enablers to facilitate behaviour change

Pragya Kandel is a PhD candidate and public health professional in the Health and Social Care Unit.

The aim of Pragya’s thesis is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the barriers and enablers to adopting healthier diet and physical activity behaviours for women during the preconception period.

Her project is titled: “Women’s preconception diet and physical activity behaviours: Unpacking barriers and enablers to facilitate behaviour change”.

It includes a systematic review of enablers and barriers to women's lifestyle behaviour change during the preconception period, sequential explanatory mixed method study, and the development of a conceptual model to explore pathways that influence preconception diet and physical activity behaviours, using the COM-B model among women of reproductive age.

This project will bridge the gap in literature by providing comprehensive insights into the barriers and enablers of adopting healthier behaviours during the preconception period, with specific focus on physical activity and diet among preconception women.
