Associate Professor and Portfolio Academic Lead

Gene is an Associate Professor and Portfolio Academic Lead in Entrepreneurship at Monash Business School, specialising in the strategic identification, integration and commercialisation of intellectual assets to create sustainable competitive advantage across industry, academia and high-performance environments.

Gene's career combines more than two decades of international commercial experience across the global creative and entertainment industries with academic leadership in entrepreneurship and innovation. His expertise spans intellectual property, licensing, market development, emerging technologies and the commercialisation of creative assets, providing a distinctive business perspective on the development and commercialisation of intellectual assets.

Before joining Monash University, he held tenured academic appointments at RMIT University and Hong Kong Baptist University, where he led approaches that connected creative practice with entrepreneurship and commercialisation, advancing the translation of creative ideas and emerging technologies into commercial value.

A lifelong motorsport competitor, saxophonist and international record producer with Number 1 chart success and long-term international licensing agreements, Gene brings lived experience from high-performance environments where creativity, execution and commercial judgement determine success.

Gene's current research and industry engagement explore entrepreneurship, commercialisation and intellectual asset strategy in the experience economy, spanning high-performance sport and entertainment, with a particular interest in how intellectual assets, entrepreneurial capability and innovation can create new forms of strategic and commercial value.
