Professional recognition
Professional recognition is the formal acknowledgement of your professional status, and in some cases, gives you the right to practice in the profession of your choice. Many of our degrees meet the criteria for accreditation, exemption or membership with relevant professional institutions or industry bodies.
If you’re interested in a particular membership, make sure you’re studying the appropriate course as detailed below. Our course advisers can help you make sure that the units you select will qualify you for membership of the organisation that represents your profession. It’s also a good idea to contact professional bodies directly to talk about membership and entrance requirements. Some double degrees may enable you to be eligible for membership of more than one professional body, which may not be listed below.

If you've been granted credit, just remember that a professional body can reject an application for membership if the credit doesn't meet their guidelines.
Accounting
Many of the undergraduate accounting programs at Monash University meet the Professional Accounting Accreditation Guidelines Australia and New Zealand. These guidelines cover the technical and professional competency areas and learning outcomes set by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ).
A Monash Accounting undergraduate degree may give you membership or entry to the following bodies:
- Entry to the ACCA professional qualification with up to 9 fundamental level paper exemptions. Use the exemption calculator to find out if you’re eligible. The Accelerate program is a special arrangement between ACCA and Monash University, which gives you the opportunity to register and start preparing professional level exams with ACCA prior to graduation.
- Associate membership of and entry to the CPA Program of CPA Australia. Access the list of accredited courses to see what units you need to complete.
- Entry to the Chartered Accountants Program of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Access the list of accredited courses to see what units you need to complete.
- Associate membership of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).
- Exemptions from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) papers up to and including the "operational level of the CIMA Qualification Framework".
- CIMA Fast-Track Program
For the first time CIMA is offering a fast-track pathway for Bachelor level students who gain a distinction or above-average mark in their undergraduate bachelor degree. Our A-Star programme is designed for high-achieving students who want to gain the CIMA qualification after graduating from an Accounting qualification. It is a unique one-exam pathway for you to become a Charted Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation holder. You will be invited to attend an intensive workshop conducted by CIMA trainers to help you prepare for the Strategic Case Study exam. After passing this exam and gaining at least 3 years of relevant work experience, you will apply for CIMA membership and become a CGMA designation holder.

Actuarial studies
If you’re taking the Bachelor of Actuarial Science, you could be eligible for certain exemptions from the Foundation and Associateship Programs when applying for membership of the Actuaries Institute. Details of exemption requirements can be found here.
Banking and finance
Membership of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA)

Registering as a Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board may be possible following completion of a Monash Business School degree. Students should refer to the Tax Practitioners Board for more information.

If management studies are part of your degree, you can apply for membership with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM). Depending on your student status, you can apply for a Member, Associate Fellow, Fellow or Student membership.

If you’re studying a Master of Business or Master of Business Law, the following units can get you closer to a qualification with the Tax Practitioners Board:
- BTF5965 Taxation Law qualifies as an introductory Australian taxation law subject
- BTF5235 Workplace and investment taxation qualifies as an advanced Australian taxation law subject
