This event was designed to explore the key gaps and opportunities for improving gender equity in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) disciplines.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr Saraid Billiards, Head, Strategy and Engagement, SAGE and a former Director of the Research Grants team at the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Monash has made demonstrable improvements in gender equity, but there is significant opportunity for further progress, particularly in STEMM fields, where representation of women in senior roles remains critically low.

Our membership in the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) pilot of Athena SWAN Charter is expected to accelerate our progress towards improving the participation of women in STEMM and we are committed to achieving tangible results. The objectives of the Athena SWAN Charter align closely with  the  University’s  strategic  goal  to  attract and retain successful academic women but also present excellent opportunities to further promote inclusive workplace culture in STEMM disciplines for people irrespective of their gender, cultural background, ethnicity or religion.

This event presented an excellent opportunity for you to find out more about the Athena SWAN program, the key learnings we've found so far through our work in the pilot and how you can provide input on gender equity initiatives in STEMM, as we enter the consultation stage of this project.
