(Peri)menopause

Our Gender Equality Action Plan 2026-2030 includes integration of (peri)menopause support into existing frameworks, including workplace adjustments and flexible work arrangements.

To enable us to meet this strategic commitment, Monash has partnered with Menopause Friendly Australia to work toward achieving Menopause Friendly Accreditation.

Learning about (peri)menopause

People going through menopause are the fastest growing workplace demographic with nearly eight in ten in the workforce. The average age of reaching menopause is 51. With three in four experiencing symptoms and as many as one in four considering leaving work during their menopause, it’s a key area of focus in our gender equity strategy to enable those experiencing (peri)menopause to feel supported and thrive in the workplace.

Menopause isn’t just a women’s issue, it’s a topic we all need to understand, discuss and support. Menopause affects people in various ways at work and home, with symptoms ranging from sleep disruption, anxiety, hot flushes, brain fog, to joint pain, muscle ache and fatigue. Menopause can also be experienced by transgender men, non-binary people and other gender-diverse individuals.

Menopause Friendly Australia has supplied a range of educational resources for Monash staff to access through our institutional membership. We urge you to explore these resources and share them widely across our university community.
