Athena SWAN
Athena SWAN
To be truly excellent we need to embrace diversity – in all its forms – and make it part of the fabric of who we are.

Athena SWAN at Monash
We signed up to Athena SWAN principles in 2015. Our participation in this program aligns closely with our strategic goals to be excellent and inclusive as articulated in Focus Monash, the University’s 2015-2020 strategic plan.

Athena SWAN in Action
We are working on the implementation of Athena SWAN Action Plan 2018-2021. Our actions focus on the attraction, retention and progression of women STEMM, on developing an inclusive workplace culture and improving diversity beyond gender by addressing intersectionality.

About Athena SWAN
Athena SWAN (Scientific Women’s Academic Network) was established in the UK in 2005 to advance gender equality in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM).

Championing Women in STEM Decadal Plan
Monash has become a "Women in STEM Decadal Plan Champion" by demonstrating how our gender equity activities align with the six opportunities identified in the Decadal Plan.

Athena SWAN Committee
We have formed a diverse Athena SWAN Committee comprising of academic staff and researchers from STEMM faculties, selected HR staff and a communication advisor.

Athena SWAN Award
We are proud to hold Athena SWAN Bronze award. Under the Athena SWAN Framework, participating institutions first work towards Bronze Award accreditation, which requires them to demonstrate a solid foundation for advancing gender equality in STEMM.
STEMM Women Academic Network
We established SWAN to facilitate network and mentoring opportunities for women within Monash
