Clementine Chang

Xinyi Chang is a PhD student with the Monash Design Health Collab. Her research project, Inclusive Design in Pediatric Emergency Care: Enhancing Children’s Comfort and Engagement in High-Pressure Environments, explores how design can improve the experiences of children aged 5–7 in emergency settings. She is particularly interested in how design might help children better understand and participate in their treatment, with the aim of reducing anxiety, increasing comfort and engagement, and promoting more child-centred care practices.

Before starting her PhD, Xinyi engaged in design projects for children and vulnerable populations in Canada, the United States, and through community-based collaborations in Bali, Indonesia. These experiences have given her a cross-cultural perspective on design and inspired her to further investigate the intersections of design and health, with a focus on how inclusive design can enhance children’s wellbeing and healthcare experiences.
