Have you joined the Monash Art Design Architecture Student Society?

MADASS is a student society located at Monash Caulfield campus that aims to connect students in Art, Design, Architecture, and the wider university through social and professional events that help students get the most out of their university experience.

The club was originally founded by MADA students in 2018 and has served as the social and industrial hub for the faculty ever since its inception. Prior to lockdown the club had around 100-150 members; today this number had doubled to over 300.

Throughout the semester MADASS hosts a variety of social events, as well as creative and professional workshops. It also partners with other Monash clubs to deliver interfaculty events. Past events have included: The MMSS x MADASS Bar Night, Y2K Party, Working in Australia Panel and the annual MADASS Ball.

MADASS separates its core goals into three separate portfolios: the Marketing Portfolio, the Social Portfolio and the Industry Portfolio.

  • The Marketing Portfolio aims to facilitate connections between MADA students and industry professionals as well as interfaculty links with other academic clubs.
  • The Industry Portfolio focuses on exposing the MADASS cohort to creative industries through events. These manifest into both casual networking and professional panel events.
  • The Social Portfolio encourages MADASS students to socialise and get involved with the faculty. MADASS aims to foster an area where students can come and relax and meet new friends.

Get to know MADASS President Alexandra Stamatelatos:

Alexandra Stamatelatos, President of MADASS

Alexandra Stamatelatos is a fifth year engineering and architecture student and serves as the President of MADASS. It is a role that she meticulously balances alongside her studies.

Alexandra initially joined the MADASS committee in 2021 as the Socials Director, she was encouraged to run for the role of president by her peers. Early on, Alexandra recognised the immense capacity of MADASS to serve the MADA cohort.

“I really wanted to help out in that aspect and plan events to help do something for the community,” Alexandra said.

“I could see there was just so much potential. I really wanted to help our society grow, because I felt that we could become a real staple of Caulfield.”

As President, Alexandra’s  responsibilities include overseeing all of the society’s portfolios and committees, monitoring club finances, communicating with Monash clubs as well as fostering connections between MADASS and the MADA faculty.

For Alexandra, getting involved with MADASS allowed her to ellevate her student experience beyond her usual classes and routines. She met several of her closest friends through the MADASS committee and cohort, which pushed her to be a more confident version of herself.

“I have definitely become way more confident, I used to be so shy. Now as president I can't be,” Alexandra said.

“You get a lot of experience in terms of marketing as well as social and professional development.”

The president of MADASS works closely alongside the MADA faculty to facilitate events and support the student body.

“I’ve been able to learn more about the faculty, and meet all these incredible behind the scenes staff members, especially at the Student Services.”

During her time as President of MADASS Alex had the opportunity to participate in orientation events and panels for first year students.

“That was really great to be able to help, because I remember doing those panels like a student visiting.”

“Being on the other end, and giving back has been really rewarding.”
