Our commitment to delivering quality medical education within rural settings remained strong in 2022 and we are thankful for our ongoing clinical and teaching partnerships which allowed us to provide quality education experiences. We also continued to increase our support and opportunities for nursing and allied health students to experience healthcare within rural communities while completing placements and look forward to growing this in years to come.

To further strengthen the pipeline into rural health careers, the Gippsland and North West Victorian Regional Training Hubs provided valuable career advice, to help support the Cohort to understand what speciality training is available to them regionally, undertake their speciality training locally and remain in rural practice. With the commencement of this new End-to-End Cohort, we are another step closer to building a stronger rural health workforce in the future.
The End-to-End Rural Cohort is funded by the Australian Government under the Murray-Darling Medical Schools Network.
Teaching excellence and innovation showcased at Monash Rural Health Education SyView
The Monash Rural Health Education Symposium in December 2022 brought together educators from across our School in a hybrid format, to engage in professional development and discussion about approaches to education.
Following a keynote address from Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) Professor Claire Palermo on transformations to assessment, attendees participated in a workshop led by educational designer, Ingrid D'Souza, on transformations to clinical assessment, bringing out interesting ideas and discussion. Smaller sessions on topics such as haiku reflections, assessment innovation and sustainability followed. A panel discussion exploring teaching in a post-COVID world highlighted some of the challenges and emerging needs of students following the pandemic, and possible changes needed to accommodate them. The Symposium provided a valuable networking opportunity for our staff to share innovative approaches to teaching, learn about best practice and explore how these could be adapted across our vast geographical teaching footprint.
