Teaching and learning

Building the future rural workforce is one of our School’s key goals, articulated in our Strategic Plan 2023-2027. We achieve this by delivering immersive and high-quality educational experiences within regional and rural settings, with the needs of rural communities front of mind.

In 2024, we increased our support and opportunities for medical, nursing and allied health students to experience healthcare rurally and look forward to growing this with the support of our clinical and community partners.

Recognition in Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Awards

Monash Rural Health's TEAM Undergraduate Certificates won the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award, supporting 3,000+ students—many from rural areas—with key skills in aged care, mental health and disability.

CBP program honoured in 2024 Dean's Awards

Monash Rural Health Churchill’s CBP Program earned a 2024 Dean’s Award for its hands-on, community-driven approach—4,000+ hours with Gippsland organisations.

Student research driving innovation

Final-year student Eugene Wang won Best Poster at DRIVERS 2024 for his SIP research showing Central Gippsland Health excels in Type 1 diabetes care. His findings led to better screening and reinforced patient-centred care in rural health.

Medical students community contributions recognised in Bendigo Bank Award

Charlie Roach and Sophie Fontaine were honoured with the 2024 Bendigo Bank Community Project Award for their outstanding rural contributions—volunteering and local outreach across Loddon Mallee, inspiring deeper student-community connection.
