Heat stress in the workplace
This project aims to estimate the economic loss of workplace heat exposure in Australia by: 1) Investigating the health service costs of occupational heat-related illnesses/injuries; 2) Exploring the labour productivity loss and its costs resulting from heat stress at work; and 3) Estimating the benefits from a generic heat warning intervention for workplace heat prevention. Outcomes will provide an overview of national economic implications at present and in future from effective heat stress control; assist the development of work place heat policies to reduce the impact of heat on workers’ health and safety, and inform resources allocation to make Australian workplaces well prepared for likely increasing extremely hot weather.
