EXCEL Registry home

The EXCEL Registry aims to generate a binational multidisciplinary network of integrated care for critically ill patients requiring ECMO, and to monitor long-term outcomes and identify best practice.

  • ~160,000 Australians and New Zealanders are admitted to an ICU each year

  • ECMO costs > $200,000 (AUD) per admission and > $100 million (AUD) per year

  • ECMO use in Australia and New Zealand has doubled in the last 5 years

  • ECMO mortality at 30% for respiratory failure, 50% for cardiac failure (based on latest EXCEL Registry data)

We have partnered with patients, clinicians, scientists, engineers, researchers, healthcare providers and funders to provide detailed data about the use of ECMO and the outcomes of patients requiring ECMO in Australia and New Zealand. The data we provide will improve outcomes for patients by providing feedback that will change clinical practice.
