MonREN is a regional network, consisting of those working in General Practice within the South-East and Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Our network is a community of GPs, Practice Nurses and Practice Managers who are passionate about improving community health by growing primary care research and education.

Research participation and education comes in different forms and different levels. Different levels of research involvement and engagement suit different people at different stages in their lives and their careers.

Joining our network, means you will receive a variety of opportunities and invitations to grow and develop your research interests, skills, and knowledge. Joining the MonREN network is free and without obligation.

There are many ways that you can be involved in research and research education. We recognise that primary care workers have differing levels of time, interest and skills to put into research. Our goal is to collectively build primary care research to improve community health, and this looks different for different members.
Some ways you can be involved in research are:
> Consume content that is research-based and led, such as journal articles, reports, podcasts etc.
> Assist researchers who are undertaking primary care research by partaking in online surveys and questionnaires.
> Get involved in research projects as an advisor or as part of a steering group.
> Attend research education events, take part in research forums, get involved in MonREN-led events and opportunities.
> Supervise medical students and provide integral primary care education, while supporting future doctors.
> Take part in clinical, or practice-led studies.
> Grow and invest in your own academic learning and research skills.
Primary care is the first point of contact within the health care system for most Australians. A robust primary healthcare system is integral for positive community health, and for a strong healthcare system.

Increasing relevant primary care research has a multitude of benefits:
> Improve health knowledge, which in term informs and improves processes, systems and health management.
> Improves the quality and approach to patient care.
> Encourages ongoing learning while reducing complacency.
MonREN is passionate about increasing a bottom-up approach to primary care research. This means that rather than research being led by research teams or academics, research topics are determined and led by those who are practicing and working in primary care. Our goal is to work more collaboratively with those who are on the ground, working in general practice.
