Global and Environmental Health Economics
Overview
We study how health and wellbeing are shaped by the environment and by global health challenges, with a strong focus on Australia and the Asia-Pacific.
Environmental health economics
Our research looks at the impacts of extreme heat, bushfires, floods, and disaster events on people and communities. We measure the health, social and economic costs of extreme climate events, and explore how communities can prepare for and recover from disasters. We provide evidence on funding models and policies designed to strengthen resilience after disasters.
Global health economics
Our work also examines how to improve health and wellbeing in low- and middle-income countries. We investigate the allocation and effectiveness of health aid, helping to identify the priorities of key stakeholders and improve aid allocation decisions. We also study the drivers of better outcomes, such as access to care, education and health financing, so that governments and development partners can design programs that deliver the greatest benefit for communities.
Together, our research helps decision-makers strengthen resilience, reduce risks, and improve health outcomes in Australia and across the region.
