About this program
Selected students will enrol in unit BFX3871/BFX5860 or ACX3500/ACX5951 for the SSB-01 teaching period.
The unit may count as a major, capstone, or elective within your undergraduate or postgraduate business degree.
This dynamic international study tour is a unique opportunity for students to explore key themes in accounting, banking, and finance across major European financial centres. Offered jointly by the Department of Accounting and the Department of Banking and Finance for over 20 years, this immersive academic experience combines classroom learning with real-world industry engagement.
Over two weeks in January 2026, students will travel through Belgium and Germany, gaining insight into how European financial institutions operate and how policies shape international accounting and banking frameworks. The program includes high-level academic content, interactive site visits, and cultural experiences.
Highlights include:
- Academic presentations on EU financial systems, market integration, and emerging topics like AI in finance.
- Site visits may include visits to prestigious institutions such as the European Commission, European Parliament, European Central Bank, Frankfurt Stock Exchange, and the European Court of Auditors.
- Cultural activities in both Belgium and Germany.
Students begin their journey in Leuven, Belgium, and continue on to Brussels, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, and Berlin, finishing with a farewell function to reflect on the experience.
Due to significant wait times, it is recommended that any student required to obtain a Schengen visa to participate on this study tour make an appointment with the relevant embassy when submitting their study tour application (even before an application outcome has been communicated).
