Can I use the volunteering hours I completed within Volunteering in Practice (MON2000) towards the badge?
Yes - the volunteering hours you completed within MON2000 can also be counted towards the 80 hour requirement of the 'Impact through Ethical Volunteering' badge.
Can I find my own volunteering opportunity?
Monash University has existing partnerships with a number of amazing organisations that offer opportunities where you will be able to have a direct impact on our local community. We highly recommend that you consider our Community Partners first, before looking at other organisations.
If, however, you have found your own volunteering opportunity and would like to apply to have it count towards the badge, this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please note that self-sourced volunteering activities must be approved prior to the volunteering commencing and the activity must meet the requirements outlined below. The organisation will also need to meet the terms of the Monash volunteering agreement. Email us at volunteering@monash.edu for more information on self-sourced volunteering activities.
What are the requirements of a volunteer activity?
The 'Impact through Ethical Volunteering' badge recognises volunteering activities that meet the following criteria:
- are within a not-for-profit organisation that is registered with the ACNC
- abides by the Volunteering Australia definition - volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.
- aligns with Monash Impact 2030
- must not be for a campaign that directly advances the interests of a political party, politician or political candidate.
- must not be to advance a specific religion. This does not preclude volunteering with a faith-affiliated charity where the work serves non-religious purposes.
- are not internships or unpaid work experience
- does not include the receipt of a scholarship or stipend
- does not involve any high-risk activities
Will my badge appear on my Monash academic transcript?
