Big Group Hug
The Organisation
Big Group Hug is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organisation founded in 2014 by a mum and teacher, Angela Wood. Based in the North West suburbs of Melbourne, Big Group Hug supports vulnerable and disadvantaged families in need, by providing new and pre-loved goods to help care for their children (aged from newborn to 16-year-old).
Our team is made up of over 300 individuals/volunteers who are committed to assisting every family who asks for help.
We work closely with and receive requests for specific and essential items through Case Workers, Maternal and Child Health Nurses or other professionals in the community. Some of the basic necessities requested range from nappies, clothes, formula, and toys to nursery furniture, prams, car seats, and more.
About the volunteering activities
At our main warehouse (Thomastown) we offer a variety of roles: sorting donations and packing boxes, greeting donors and case workers at the door, checking for parts and cleaning toys and car/nursery hardware, picking and packing orders, being a companion for deliveries in our van.
At our smaller Airport West and Tarneit Hubs volunteers focus on pre-sorting donations and greeting donors and case workers at the door.
