The Organisation

FoodFilled is a volunteer centric youth-led food rescue charity dedicated to combating food wastage and alleviating hunger. We are equally a humanitarian not-for-profit, providing emergency relief to those in need and an environmental organisation committed to fighting climate change by preventing food waste. We exist because more than 20% of Australians are food insecure, unsure of when their next meal will be and yet 1.3 billion tonnes of edible food ends up in landfill every year which irrevocably damages our environment. FoodFilled's mission is to achieve a circular economy, utilising the valuable resources we have access to instead of discarding them and creating new ones. We do this by partnering with food retailers, big and small, rescuing their leftover, excess or unsold food destined for landfill and taking it to people in need all across Melbourne.

About the volunteering program

Monash volunteers can assist with food rescue work, which involves picking up leftover/unsold/surplus food from a local retailer such as a supermarket, bakery or cafe and then delivering the food to a local charity in need, preventing valuable resources from being discarded and providing immediate relief for those experiencing food insecurity.
