Medical Pantry
The Organisation
Medical Pantry is a small innovative Victorian charity that is solving healthcare’s contribution to climate change and global issues of healthcare inequality. In 2021, we rescued and donated 15,000 tonnes of medical supplies (approx. $200 million worth) from our first warehouse in Yarraville.
Australia’s health system is one of the best in the world and provides quality, safe and affordable medical care. However, to achieve this, our health system is oversupplied and generates huge amounts of waste. The healthcare system is the second largest contributor to landfill, contributing to 7% global greenhouse gas emissions. Alarmingly, 30% of healthcare waste consists of medical supplies that are unused and safe, while half of the world’s population does not have access to basic medical care.
Medical Pantry’s mission is to deliver the most medical supplies to underserved communities throughout the world in the most efficient and effective ways possible.
About the volunteering role:
- Monash students can participate as General warehouse volunteers. Volunteering activities include:
- Sorting incoming medical supplies and equipment
- Uploading supplies into our inventory management system ‘Shopify'
- Packing requested medical supplies and equipment for our charity partners into boxes/pallets so it is ready for collection.
