Open Table
The Organisation
Open Table is a community food organisation dedicated to reducing food insecurity and food waste across Melbourne. We rescue surplus food and transform it into free, nourishing community lunches and fresh food markets, as well as food-literacy programs including play-based Cook & Connect sessions for families. Our programs support connection, dignity and wellbeing, offering people a safe and welcoming space to share a meal, learn new skills and participate in their local community. Volunteers play a vital role across all aspects of our work — from cooking and serving meals to supporting workshops and community events.
About the volunteering program
Kitchen Hands for Saturday Community Lunch Program support our community lunch program by helping prepare fresh, nutritious meals using rescued food. Volunteers assist with simple food preparation, cooking, plating, setting up the dining space, and light cleaning. This role is hands-on, social and rewarding — perfect for volunteers who enjoy cooking, teamwork and creating a warm, welcoming environment for community members.
