Managing your Scholarship

It is important you know who funds your scholarship and how it works. Knowing this will then allow you to know which set of scholarships terms and conditions are relevant to you. For example, if you hold a centrally allocated scholarship (such as RTP Stipend or Monash Graduate Scholarship), they are governed by Monash's Research Training Scholarships Policy and RTP Scholarship Procedures. A faculty or externally funded scholarship may have a different set of conditions and paid leave entitlements. You will need to seek clarification from the Funding Body if this information is not contained within your scholarship offer letter.

You should also be aware of the implications any variation to your candidature or attendance may have on your scholarship. We recommend reviewing the conditions and governing policy and procedures of your scholarship prior to submitting an application to transfer degrees or academic units/field of education, or to vary your attendance mode to external or part time.

Knowing your Entitlements

All scholarship holders are paid fortnightly. This payment is for two weeks of study which is equivalent to 10 paid days (pro-rata for part time). Scholarship holders are automatically entitled to four weeks (20 days) of annual leave and two weeks (10 days) of sick leave (pro-rata for part time). It is important that you keep your supervisor informed of these particular absences as you do not need to formally apply to take this leave.

You will need to submit an application for any leave beyond these entitlements.

Information on the types of leave available to Graduate Research students can be found on the Managing your Candidature page.
