How to respond
Offers of admission are made by the Monash Graduate Research Office (MGRO) on behalf of the Graduate Research Committee (GRC). All offers and enrolment are subject to our University policies and procedures.
Make sure you familiarise yourself with the content of your offer, paying particular attention to your start date and any conditions specified.
Responding to your offer
Once you have reviewed your offer you will need to respond online. Please respond to your offer as soon as possible. If you do not enrol or change your commencement date, your offer will expire within ten (10) working days of your proposed start date.
Your course enrolment commencement date is specified on the offer of admission. You are required to enrol within ten (10) working days of the commencement date specified on your offer - you can enrol either earlier or later providing the 10 working days is not exceeded.
Submitting a change of commencement date request
If you need to start earlier or later than 10 working days from your current start date, you may apply to change your commencement date, taking into account your faculty’s preferred start dates.
A change to the commencement date will be considered in certain limited circumstances and if approved, a new offer will be issued which replaces any previous offer.
Note:
- An offer can be deferred for a maximum period of 12 months in total, from the initial proposed commencement date. Monash makes no guarantee that a further offer will be made.
- If you meet the English Language Proficiency requirements via an English Language test, the test must still be valid at the proposed commencement date, otherwise you will need to undergo another test.
- Supervision and resources, approved during assessment of your application, will need to be re-confirmed by the Faculty.
- If you have received a packaged offer (e.g. English Bridging Program/PhD) please contact mgro-apply@monash.edu to discuss your options, before submitting requesting a change of commencement date.
- If you are in receipt of a Monash Scholarship, please review the relevant Scholarship Policy and Procedures for details regarding allowable deferral periods.
Note: To access the change of commencement date option, you must first select ‘accept’ at the beginning of your offer response.
Additional requirements
When accepting your offer, you will need to upload the following documentation:
- Completed & signed HDR offer letter (i.e. ISCA). All sections of Part A must be completed and the Acceptance Declaration must be signed.
- Copy of your passport (personal details page only)
- Current visa (if applicable)
- Evidence of payment for course fees deposit and/or evidence of payment for OSHC (where required and not covered by a scholarship). Externally enrolled students do not require OSHC.
- Scholarship offer letter or letter of financial guarantee from your sponsor, clearly itemising the costs that will be covered.
Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
Accepting your offer as early as possible will mean you can start your student visa application sooner.
Please note, for internally enrolled students located at an Australian campus, a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is a requirement for your visa application. We will send you your CoE within 10 working days of your acceptance having been submitted. Once you have received your CoE from us, we recommend you lodge your visa application immediately.
It is your responsibility to hold a valid visa that permits you to study full time in Australia for the duration of your course.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
All international students on a student visa must have health cover for the length of their visa while studying in Australia. If you hold a secondary student visa, you must be insured under the same policy as the primary student visa holder. You are not eligible to hold an OSHC policy in your own right if you are a secondary student visa holder or a dependant. A partner of a primary student visa holder or applicant is considered a secondary student visa holder.
Note: You must not request for Monash to set up a OSHC if you will not be the primary student visa holder.
Applying for your Visa
As an international student, you are required to hold a valid Australian visa for the duration of your study. Your visa must be obtained before travelling to Australia. For more information regarding visa related matters, please refer to the HDR visa flyer included with your admissions offer letter.
Please note that Monash University scholarships do not cover visa application fees.
As an international student based in Malaysia, you are required to apply for a student pass in order to obtain an electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) from the Malaysian Immigration authorities prior to commencing your studies. Please refer to your offer letter for further information.
Please note: The Monash Graduate Research Office does not manage scholarships or tuition fee waivers for Monash Malaysia. For assistance regarding any Monash Malaysia scholarships, we recommend contacting Monash Malaysia directly at mum.gro@monash.edu.
