Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

International students on a student visa must have health cover for the length of their visa while studying in Australia. The Monash-preferred OSHC provider is Allianz Care Australia and the benefits of this policy include:

  • on-campus Allianz Care Australia agent
  • waived waiting periods for mental health
  • waived waiting periods for pregnancy-related claims on policies with a duration of two years or more
  • access to Sonder at no extra cost (which includes 24/7 safety, mental health and medical support)
  • access to the Allianz Care Australia Student Hub to help you get the most from your cover.

You don’t need to purchase OSHC if you’re a:

  • Norwegian student who is a member of the Norwegian Health Economics Administration (HELFO)
  • Swedish student who is a member of CSN International (the Swedish National Board of Student Aid) or Kammarkollegiet (the Swedish Legal, Financial and Administration Agency) or
  • Belgian student who has a Europese ziekteverzekeringskaart (EZVK) Carte Européenne d'Assurance Maladie (CEAM) from your mutualiteit mutualité in Belgium.

These three exceptions apply as long as you’re not a Study Abroad student with OSHC included in your package.

If you choose for Monash to arrange your OSHC for you, we’ll arrange your OSHC policy with Allianz Care Australia and will provide your personal details to them so they can schedule your policy. Monash receives an administration fee from Allianz Care for the services performed by Monash for students and Allianz in respect of the provision of Allianz Care’s OSHC policies. View the Allianz Care Australia Policy Wording Documents.

We strongly encourage international visitors who are not on a student visa to purchase personal health cover for their time in Australia. See health cover options for overseas visitors.

The Department of Health also has information about health cover for students and visitors.

As a Monash student, you also have access to all the University Health Services.
