HELP loans for New Zealand citizens

To be eligible you must meet all criteria below:

• you hold a Special Category Visa from the Australian Government, or a permanent resident visa (and immediately before becoming a permanent resident, you held a Special Category Visa)
• you were under 18 years of age when you first began to usually reside in Australia, and at that time, you didn't have a spouse or de facto partner
• you first started to generally live and reside in Australia at least 10 years before the test day (the first date you successfully applied for a HELP loan for this course), and you've been in Australia for at least:
  • a total of 8 out of the 10 years immediately before the test day
  • a total of 18 months out of the two years immediately before the test day
• you are otherwise eligible for HELP (eg. your course location is in Australia, you have a tax file number, your course type is eligible)
• you have provided your USI to Monash.

How to apply

Submit the New Zealander HELP loans request ensuring you attach the three scanned documents specified on the form. HELP Applications close five days before each census date.

Once you've applied for HELP and your application is approved, you don't need to apply again for that course. We'll assess your application and advise you of its progress by email to your student account.

If your application for HECS-HELP is successful

If you're in a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) and your application is successful, we'll give you instructions on how to complete the Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form. You complete these in the Web Enrolment System (WES).

If your application is successful

If your application is successful, we'll give you instructions on how to complete the official hard-copy Government HELP application. To finalise the application, you need to correctly complete and sign it and submit it to Monash Connect.

Your application will take effect from the first census date on or after the date you submit the hard-copy Government form to Monash Connect.
