Reported for academic misconduct?

Your chief examiner or another staff member will send a report of academic misconduct to Student Conduct and Complaints (SCC) if they believe you’ve committed a serious breach of academic integrity, or if they suspect a breach when you’re already on the Academic Integrity Register for a previous warning or finding of misconduct.

This can happen if you’ve done something to get an unfair advantage in your unit or course. For example, you may have submitted an assessment that misrepresents your academic ability because you’ve paid someone to do the assessment for you or you’ve used someone else’s work without acknowledging it.

What happens next?

After receiving a report from your chief examiner or, in some cases, from the eAssessment team or another area of the University, SCC will send a Notice of Allegation of Academic Misconduct to your Monash email address. This notice will come with supporting evidence and a Student Response to Notice of Allegation of Misconduct form. You’ll then have five University working days to respond to the allegation by emailing us the Student Response form, along with any refuting evidence. (If you don’t respond, a decision will be made without your explanation.)

Once SCC has assessed your case, they’ll refer it to your teaching faculty’s responsible officer who will decide on an appropriate action – this could range from dismissing the report to escalating your case to a Student Misconduct Panel for a final determination. Within seven University working days of the responsible officer reaching a decision, SCC will send the outcome to your Monash email address.

WH grade until investigation ends

When you’re reported for academic misconduct, your chief examiner will give you a temporary WH (withheld) grade for your unit until the investigation ends. Your faculty will later update your result based on the decision of a responsible officer or Student Misconduct Panel. Contact your chief examiner with any questions about your results.
