European student financial aid
If you’re a Danish, Dutch, German, Norwegian or Swedish student studying at Monash University, you may be eligible for government financial aid from your home country.
Denmark
Danish citizens and eligible non-citizens may apply for student financial aid through Statens Uddannelsesstøtte (SU), the State Educational Grant and Loan Scheme.
The application deadline is 5 December for financial aid for the following year. SU recommends that you submit your application about three months before the start of the relevant semester. (If you’re applying for the first time, you may need to get pre-approval for your course.)
When you apply for SU financial aid, Monash will complete your forms. For example, you need to submit a:
- Certification of Active Participation in the Studies According to the Study Schedule form
- Certification of Tuition Fee form.
There may be other required forms, depending on your circumstances. Generally, all forms will become available for download once your application has been pre-approved.
Germany
German citizens and eligible non-citizens may apply for student financial aid through Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG), the Federal Training Assistance Act.
BAföG recommends that you submit your application about six months before the start of the relevant semester.
When you apply for BAföG financial aid, Monash will complete your forms. For example, you need to submit a:
- Certificate of Enrolment form
- Confirmation of Admission form.
There may be other required forms, depending on your circumstances. Generally, all forms will become available for download once your application has been pre-approved.
Netherlands
Dutch citizens and eligible non-citizens may apply for student financial aid through Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO), the Education Executive Agency.
DUO recommends that you submit your application about three months before the start of the relevant semester.
When you apply for DUO financial aid, Monash will complete your forms. For example, you need to submit a:
- Tuition Fee Statement form
- Enrolment Statement form.
There may be other required forms, depending on your circumstances. Generally, all forms will become available for download once your application has been pre-approved.
Norway
Norwegian citizens and eligible non-citizens may apply for student financial aid through Lånekassen, the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.
Applications open mid-May each year. You’ll need to submit your application by 15 November for full-year funding or by 15 March for part-year funding.
When you apply for Lånekassen financial aid, Monash will complete your forms. For example, you need to submit a Documentation of Academic Progress and Tuition Fees – C form.
There may be other required forms, depending on your circumstances. Generally, all forms will become available for download once your application has been pre-approved.
Make sure to submit a C form at the beginning of each Norwegian academic year to continue receiving financial aid.
Sweden
Swedish citizens and eligible non-citizens may apply for student financial aid through Centrala Studiestödsnämnden (CSN), the Swedish Board of Student Finance.
CSN recommends that you submit your application about eight weeks before the start of the relevant semester.
When you apply for CSN financial aid, Monash will complete your forms. For example, you need to submit a Study Assurance/School Signature form.
There may be other required forms, depending on your circumstances. Generally, all forms will become available for download once your application has been pre-approved.
