Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

A CoE is an official form that we provide to international students who need to apply for a student visa. It confirms you’re enrolled in a registered course and you’ve paid your enrolment fees, and displays the registration code and the start and end dates for your course.

You’ll receive a CoE once you accept your course offer (unless you’re an Australia Awards Scholarship student). This includes if you’re transferring from one Monash course to another.

If your visa is going to expire before you’ve finished your course, you’ll need to apply for a new CoE.

Applying for a new CoE

If you can’t complete your course before your visa expires, you’ll need to apply for a new CoE to submit with your student visa application.

You can apply for a new CoE two months before your visa expires.

We can only approve a new CoE if you can demonstrate one of the following:

  • compassionate or compelling circumstances
  • an academic progress intervention:
    • warning you about your academic progress
    • referring you to University services to assist you academically
    • imposing an enrolment condition on you
    • approving you to underload your studies.
  • an approved deferment or intermission of study.

Application outcome

If your application is approved, we’ll send your new CoE to your Monash email address within seven working days of your application.

Exception for Australia Awards students

If you hold an Australia Awards Scholarship, you don’t need a CoE – instead, you’ll have an agreement with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade that confirms you’re staying in Australia to study.

If you'd like to extend your stay, take a look at our page on Australia Awards Scholarship extensions.
