Update, defer or cancel your graduation application
You can check or update your application in the Graduation Portal up to 30 days before your graduation round begins. All you need to do is go to your existing application and click Edit application.
During this time, you can:
- update your alternative email address for transaction confirmations and graduation messages (an ongoing personal email address is best)
- update how your name will appear on your award certificate
- change from attending to not attending an official event (graduating in absentia) – you’ll only be eligible for a refund if you apply before the deadline below
- list any special requirements
- defer your graduation to another suitable round (if the round appears as an option in the Graduation Portal).
Just keep in mind, if you’d like to update your application from graduating in absentia to attending a ceremony, you’ll need to do so before the application deadline for your graduation round.
You can defer your application in the Graduation Portal up to 30 days before your graduation round begins. To defer:
- Click Defer application.
- Select the round you’d like to attend instead.
- Click Submit.
If you miss this deadline, you'll be conferred as in absentia (if you're eligible to graduate) and you won't be able to attend a future celebration. But if you miss the deadline due to extenuating circumstances, you can still request to defer by submitting an enquiry through MoVA.
If there’s no suitable round for you to defer to, you’ll need to cancel your application and reapply when one becomes available in the Graduation Portal.
Each round has a refund deadline. If you:
- Apply to defer by the refund deadline: the attendance fee you already paid for will be transferred to the later round you’ll be graduating in.
- Miss the refund deadline: you’ll still be able to apply to graduate in another round (unless your current application has already gone to the University Council) but you’ll have to pay another attendance fee.
You can cancel your application in the Graduation Portal up to 30 days before your round begins (unless you’re late due to extenuating circumstances). All you need to do is go to your existing application and click Cancel application.
If you don’t cancel your application by the refund deadline below, you won’t get an attendance fee refund.
