How to check the authenticity of graduation documents
How you check the authenticity of a graduation document depends on whether it’s a digital or hard copy.
Monash University can provide an award certificate (testamur), academic record (transcript) or Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) in either format.
What to look for
Online
When a Monash student or graduate sends you a link to their official documents in My eQuals, make sure the link starts with https://myequals.net or https://www.myequals.edu.au.
Only accredited universities in Australia and New Zealand can issue documents through the My eQuals platform. A student or graduate cannot upload or modify them. This guarantees the authenticity of their documents.
PDF file
Always view a PDF file of a certified document online with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If authentic, you’ll see a blue ribbon above the document with these words: ‘Certified by Monash University … all signatures are valid’. If tampered with or modified, you’ll see a red ‘X’ and an error message in the blue ribbon.
Make sure you use the most recent version of Acrobat Reader and that you’re connected to the internet. (A slow internet speed may limit Acrobat Reader's ability to verify the document's signature.)
Printed version
We can only guarantee a certified digital document’s authenticity when you view it online as a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If the document has been printed, it must be certified directly by the University.
Monash security features for hard copy documents depend on the document type.

- invisible image (like a watermark) of our crest, name and the word Original that appears under UV lighting (black light)
- our crest on the reverse side that disappears when warm and reappears when cool
- unique barcode on the reverse side.
Academic record
To confirm the authenticity of an academic record, look for:
- micro-text lines in the header and footer that read as MONASHUNIVERSITY repeating when magnified
- micro-printed patterns within the main body image, with the word COPY appearing if scanned or photocopied
- watermark of a diamond shape repeating across the page
- invisible image (like a watermark) of our crest, name and the word Original that appears under UV lighting (black light) – the second i in University has no dot
- holographic image of a globe in the footer.
