Off-campus exams

If your final assessment timetable shows you have an off-campus eExam, you’ll need to find a quiet, private space to sit your eExam.

What you'll need

  • the link to the eAssessment platform
  • a desktop or laptop computer, plugged into power
  • a working webcam and microphone (if you have a recorded eExam)
  • a smartphone (with a QR code reader, camera and data)
  • materials for handwritten answers, in case they are required as part of your eExam:
    • a blue or black pen, or HB or 2B pencil
    • blank A4 paper
    • a smartphone to take photos of your answers and upload them.

Setting up your exam space

To adhere to exam rules, you’ll need a space where you can sit your eExam under exam conditions (conditions that are very similar to what you’d expect in an assessment venue). It’s important that you set your space up in accordance with these conditions, as many off-campus eExams require you to complete a room scan as part of your pre-exam online check-in process:

  • You’ll need a quiet, private room where you’re the only person present.
  • Let your friends and family know that you’re sitting your exam and must not be interrupted. Interactions with others during your eExam will be flagged and reported to your faculty. Put a sign on your door asking people to come back later and turn your voicemail on.
  • The room must have good lighting, but light must not shine directly onto your webcam.
  • Study materials must be out of sight and out of arm's reach.
  • Ensure there’s no writing, stickers or notes on your desk or computer.
  • If you have dual monitors, remove one of the monitors – you’re only allowed to use one monitor in the exam.
  • Make sure there are no unauthorised materials on the floor under your desk.

If you don’t meet these requirements, you’ll be flagged as being in breach of exam rules.

Accessing your eExam

  1. Get your computer ready well before your exam so you’re feeling confident and prepared.
  2. Log into the eAssessment platform up to 30 minutes before your scheduled eExam using your student username and password, then navigate to your unit’s eExam – you may not be able to see the eExam link in the platform until two business days before your scheduled exam. If you start your exam late, you may not get your full exam time.
  3. If you have an eExam that is not recorded, the Start exam button will turn blue at the scheduled start time – click to begin your exam.
  4. If you have a recorded eExam:
    1. Click the Check in for exam button and follow the instructions to complete the online check-in process, including a room scan (once you click the Check in for exam button, the recording of your exam session will start).
    2. Click the Ready to Start button and switch back to the eExam tab – keep both tabs open at all times.
    3. At the scheduled time of your exam, refresh your page. The Start exam button will turn blue – click it to start your eExam.
