Understand the framework that governs the supervision of Graduate Research students at Monash
The Supervisor Accreditation framework enables Monash to meet legislative requirements. The eligibility criteria for accreditation at Monash University are derived from the Higher Education Standards Framework (TEQSA); Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, 2018 (and supporting Supervision: A guide supporting the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research), and the Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR: Guidelines for quality graduate research supervision), requiring Monash to ensure main supervisors:
The Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 10 corresponds to a Doctoral degree. You must have a doctoral degree or equivalent to be registered or accredited.
Registration permits an eligible Monash staff member or adjunct to supervise graduate research students in the capacity of Associate Supervisor. Importantly, it allows staff members who are new to graduate supervision to gain the necessary supervision experience for an accreditation application.
Accreditation permits an eligible Monash staff member or adjunct who is experienced in graduate research supervision to supervise graduate research students in the capacity of Main Supervisor or Associate Supervisor.
Supervisors should closely review the eligibility criteria and supervision load/limits of each category outlined on the Supervision Framework page to determine whether they should apply to be registered or accredited.
