Read through the following step-by-step guide to learn more about applying for Monash Indigenous Entry Scheme courses, the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) and scholarships for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders. You’ll also find information about the things you need to consider, such as key application dates and important tips.

Interview with us View

The Monash University Indigenous Student Access Scheme recognises the systemic under representation of Indigenous Australians in higher education and seeks to remedy this.

Whether you are interested in starting a health career or furthering your existing career and study - we invite you to attend an interview with us.

The interview has several benefits:

You meet with Indigenous staff from the Faculty
You can share your career and study aspirations
It helps us understand your previous study and life experience
You will find out more about scholarships and accommodation options
You will find out more about study, cultural and social programs for Indigenous students at Monash
Understand more about bridging or pathway programs if you need them

Interviews can be face-to-face or online and you can bring a family member or friend to accompany you.

Monash Indigenous Entry Scheme View

Through VTAC, Indigenous Australian applicants can gain direct admission to a range of Monash Medicine, Nursing, Health Science undergraduate degrees with an achieved ATAR of 50+ (higher for some degrees).

There are no extra requirements of time added to your course when you start a course via this entry scheme, and you will be supported throughout your degree by the University and the Gukwonderuk Indigenous Health Workforces Centre.

Admissions and pathways

Indigenous access programs and pathways (INAP and MIAP)

The Indigenous Non-Award Pathway (INAP) and Monash Indigenous Access Program (MIAP) are both designed to support Indigenous Australians who wish to undertake university studies.

Diploma of Tertiary Studies

Diploma of Tertiary Studies is a program that can help you get into university if you haven't got the Year 12 score you expected or are returning to study after working or raising a family.

Monash College

Monash College creates pathway programs for students who aspire to study at university. Our respected international English testing centre helps candidates determine their English language capability for study, employment and visa purposes.

TAFE Pathways

TAFE pathways in some cases, you can use an Australian TAFE qualification as a pathway to study at Monash.

Kirrip program View

Kirrip means friend in the Woiwurrung language of Narrm (Melbourne) area. The Kirrip program matches every Indigenous first year medicine, nursing and allied health student with another Indigenous student in a higher year level.

Students catch up and share information about things like career, guidance and motivation, studying, clinical placement, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources. As part of the program, students can choose to catch up in many ways: in person, via the phone or over Zoom. Students will catch up once every four to six weeks.

The Faculty has several student gatherings that engage students with senior mentors on clinical case presentations, study skills and clinical skills practice:

Nursing clinical skills sessions
Murrup Bung-allambee Indigenous Psychology Group fortnightly yarning circle for students (all levels) that meets in person and via zoom
Annual Indigenous student symposium

Indigenous student bursary View

Students can apply to the bursary for costs of admission tests, course related expenses such as uniforms, working with children checks, police checks, fitness tests, immunisations and sorry business attendance.

Scholarships and accommodation View

We assist with access to and costs of staying in Monash Residential Services on campus through our accommodation scholarships.

Achieving Potential Indigenous Support Scholarships: You are guaranteed this scholarship if you are Indigenous Australian and intend to study an undergraduate or graduate (coursework) degree at Monash. $6500 per annum (48 credit points of study) for the minimum number of credit points required to complete your degree.
Monash Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences Indigenous accommodation bursary: if you are an Indigenous Australian intending to enrol or currently studying in the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, you may be eligible for this scholarship. It covers the cost of one year’s accommodation at Monash Residential Services.
The Margaret and John Crutch Indigenous Midwifery Scholarship has been established in the memory of Margaret and John Crutch. It is for Indigenous students commencing the Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery at a Monash campus in Australia.

Internships View

We link you to hospitals and other cadetship programs that provide you an opportunity to work in your semester break in an area that supports your career aspirations.

Wominjeka Lounge and Study Spaces

Wominjeka means ‘to come with purpose’ in the Woiwurrung language of the Narrm (Melbourne) area. The Wominjeka Lounge is located on our Clayton Campus at 27 Rainforest Walk. It is a space for community meetings and for students to study, meet with tutors or with peers.
