A/Prof Christina Ekegren is the Rehabilitation Stream Lead within the Rehabilitation, Ageing and Independent Living (RAIL) Research Centre and Research Lead for Australia's first 'Smart Ward' within the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA).
She is a globally recognised expert on physical activity in clinical populations, with a major focus on improving outcomes for hospitalised older adults. She also has specific expertise in novel physical activity measurement approaches and leads the International Physical Activity Vital Signs Consortium for hospital settings.
A/Prof Ekegren is the recipient of a National Health and Medical Research Early Career Fellowship and has attracted over $3 million in research funding from government, industry and academic sources. She has presented as an invited speaker at both national and international conferences, and authored over 100 peer reviewed articles and industry reports.
Christina has a clinical background in physiotherapy and has worked in teaching and research at universities in Australia, the UK and Canada. She is currently a registered physiotherapist, an Adjunct Researcher with the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, an Honorary Research Fellow at Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, an Honorary Research Fellow of the Emergency and Trauma Centre, Alfred Health, and Peninsula Health, and a Research Collaborator with the Centre for Aging SMART (Solutions for Mobility, Activity, Rehabilitation and Technology) at Vancouver Coastal Health.
