ACTIVATE

  • Transport is Australia's second largest source of greenhouse gas emissions

  • Less than half of Australian adults meet recommended physical activity levels

  • Over 18,000 pedestrians and bike riders are hospitalised in Australia every year

  • Australia is highly car dependent, with 3 in 4 trips made by car

ACTIVATE is a practical partnership model that delivers accelerated mode shift at scale – meaning a sustained shift of everyday trips from private cars to active travel, micromobility and public transport.

We're part of the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

The problem

ACTIVATE will address critical knowledge and capability gaps that currently result in decision making without an evidence base, without robust evaluation and without an understanding of what works for who and why. These gaps are contributing to inefficient investment, erosion of community trust and license, and missed opportunities to transform safety, mobility, and population, environmental, and planetary health.

What ACTIVATE delivers

ACTIVATE is built around two integrated capabilities, designed to learn and improve with every project:

Together, they create a system that gets smarter with every project, and turns evidence into action faster than any traditional approach.

ACTIVATE delivers the gear change we need to enable people to travel in active, healthy, safe and sustainable ways.

Who we partner with

Built for the partners who shape how people move.

ACTIVATE is designed to deliver value wherever decisions are made about transport, urban form and community health. We partner with governments, industry, and community and not-for-profit organisations, translating ambition into measurable benefits for communities.

If your organisation is attempting to change the way people move, ACTIVATE is built to enable this.
