Henry Krum Award for Mid Career Excellence

Congratulations to HEG Senior Research Fellow Dr Lidia Engel who was recognised in the 2025 School Excellence Awards with the Henry Krum Award for Mid-Career Excellence! This award is named in honour of the late Professor Henry Krum, inaugural head of the School’s Centre for Cardiovascular Research and Education in Therapeutics. Henry was a clinical and medical researcher whose ground-breaking work changed the way heart failure patients are managed worldwide. This award recognises mid-career researchers who display the characteristics that Henry is remembered for: innovation, integrity and an ability to see possibilities that others may not.

School Excellence Awards winners

Congratulations to our HEG staff recognised in this year's School Excellence Awards ceremony, celebrating staff and students for outstanding achievements in 2024! Professor Cathy Mihalopoulos was awarded for Higher Degree by Research Supervision Excellence, and Dr Jemimah Ride took out the award for Mid Career Best Paper, for A reporting checklist for discrete choice experiments in health: The DIRECT Checklist. VIC Premier's Prizes

Huge congratulations to Dr Lisa Higgins, who scooped up two highly prestigious State awards for her research into long-term outcomes for critically ill COVID patients. Read more in Monash News.

International Early Career Achievement Award

Congratulations to Dr Lisa Higgins from ANZIC-RC, recipient of the Critical Care International Early Career Achievement Award at the American Thoracic Society conference which is currently underway in San Diego. Nominated by Professor Carol Hodgson, Lisa is a health economics research fellow, with a focus on evaluating the costs of care in critical illness, and conducting economic evaluations alongside clinical trials in critical care.

PhD student awarded Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Paper of the Year

Our PhD student Tan Nguyen has been awarded the 6th annual Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Paper of the Year Award. Tan's paper assesses the impact of a 20% sugar sweetened beverages tax on preventing dental caries in the Australian population. Health Economics Group researchers won the inaugural 2023 Australian Clinical Trials Alliance HEAT Excellence in Trial Based Health Economics Award for their economic evaluation of the Target-D program. Read more here.
