MUARC in Cyprus for Road Safety Forum and Workshops
MUARC representatives are currently in Cyprus for a Road Safety Forum and Workshops that will discuss road safety issues, identify solutions and share best practice. The Centre is joined by the Australian High Commission, CERIDES, the World Health Organisation, Ministry of Transport, Communication and Works, Ministry of Justice and Public Order, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth and the Cyprus Police.
“This is an opportunity to further strengthen the partnership between Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), CERIDES and the key Cyprus road safety agencies,” said MUARC Director, Professor Jude Charlton.
“Together, we are part of the global effort that is striving for zero death and serious injury. The objective is to consider the road safety challenges that face Cyprus and to identify some tangible, achievable actions that are relevant for Cyprus and which will have an observable impact on the safety of all on Cyprus roads.”
MUARC’s Global Road Safety Advisor, Mr Eric Howard AM, said the Vision Zero strategy of not accepting any serious injuries or fatalities on the road network is gaining traction around the world.
“Vision Zero is an aspiration that will drive reflection and action in road safety for communities and their elected representatives,” said Mr Howard.
“There is increased awareness and international support for action now and over the next 30 years to achieve a target of zero fatalities by that time in the EU and elsewhere.”
