CHE PhD applications and scholarships

For entry into the integrated PhD program at the Centre for Health Economics, we will generally consider applicants who have already completed an Honours, four-year Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree with top marks and a research component in a relevant discipline.

Disciplines

Relevant disciplines include health economics, economics, and econometrics. We will also consider other quantitative disciplines such as public health, epidemiology, mathematics, engineering, computer science, and psychology.

Eligibility requirements

You can check your eligibility with the PhD readiness tool.

For full information on eligibility and English language requirements, please visit the Monash Business School Integrated PhD Program page.

Applications

Before applying, note the following:

  • You do not need to find a supervisor before submitting an application.
  • When prompted, select “Health Economics” as your area of specialisation.

To apply, please follow the Integrated PhD program application process.

If your application demonstrates eligibility, and the Centre for Health Economics has the resources and expertise to take you on as a graduate research student, you will receive an invitation to apply.

If you have any questions that are not answered above or in the Integrated PhD program FAQ, please contact Monash Business School's Research services office.

Scholarships and financial support

Generous PhD scholarships are available in all areas of health economics, but we encourage projects that align with our research themes and the current research projects of our supervisors.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship covering tuition fees and a tax-free stipend for the duration of the integrated PhD program (including the Master of Commerce and PhD elements of the degree). The current base rate of the tax-free stipend is AU$39,000 per annum, with up to $49,000 per annum available for outstanding applicants.

More information on scholarships and top-ups is available on the Scholarships and fees page.

Additional financial support is available through research and teaching assistance work.

PhD candidates also have opportunities for funded domestic and international conference travel and research visits.
