The Department of Accounting offers a one-year Honours program to outstanding students. This extra year of study provides you with the opportunity to challenge and extend the knowledge gained during your undergraduate or MPA degree and is a great way to boost your qualifications to enhance your future career. Through an Honours degree, you will develop advanced analytical skills, problem-solving, strategic thinking, presentation and communication skills. Our students go on to work for regulatory bodies, including the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB), as well as CPA Australia, Big Four accounting firms, banks and financial institutions, consulting firms, and many more. In addition, the Honours program unlocks opportunities for further study, including a Master of Commerce (MCom) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
The Department of Accounting offers a limited number of scholarships to outstanding students undertaking Honours in the Department. Potential recipients are selected for interview based on:
- Grades obtained in accounting units during the final two years of their degree(s):
- Prizes(s) awarded for academic achievement(s); and
- Candidate statement.

The Department of Banking and Finance offers a limited number of scholarships to outstanding students undertaking Honours in the department. Potential recipients are selected for interview based on:
- Grades obtained in banking and/or finance units during the final two years of their degree(s):
- Prizes(s) awarded for academic achievement(s); and
- Candidate statement.

The Honours program in the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics exposes students to the latest research and cutting edge developments in the fields of econometrics including micro or macro econometrics, actuarial science and data analytics.

Honours information is usually given out at Economics Students' Society of Australia Monash University (ESSA) career events.

Expression of interest
Students who are interested in Honours in Economics are encouraged to register their interest. Those who do will be notified of any future information sessions that are scheduled.
