Organisational behaviour

The Organisational behaviour research interest group elevates the knowledge and practice of how individuals and teams operate within organisations. Our research builds the evidence base to transform organisations, teams, leaders, and employees into the next generation of organisational champions with unique advantages, better wellbeing and a strong moral compass.

We examine how organisations, teams, leaders, employees, and communities can thrive in the new world of work. We explore various topics within the organisational behaviour field, including wellbeing at work and home, leadership, emotions, motivation, morals and ethics, inclusive work, employee turnover and retention, prosocial behaviour, human-technology interactions and safety.

As employees are at the heart of the organisation, we investigate different drivers for all types of employee success so that employees thrive, not just survive in their workplaces. Our work contributes to creating sustainable workforces, characterised by trust, inclusivity, and ethical behaviour. By combining leading academic research with contemporary organisational practice, we provide an evidence-based approach and actionable tools to enhance individual, team and organisational effectiveness.

We draw predominantly on quantitative forms of research, including meta-analyses, field surveys, experimental designs, and intervention studies. We have worked with several leading organisations in Victoria and Australia, including ANZ, NAB, WorkSafe Victoria, the Salvation Army, Australian Taxation Office, Australian Public Service, Metro Trains Melbourne and Volunteering Victoria. Further, we have received significant funding from several state, national and international funding bodies, including Worksafe Victoria, The Australian Research Council, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hong Kong University Council Grant and Fulbright Australia.

Our peer-reviewed research has been published and highly cited across our top discipline journals, including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Review, Organizational Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of ManagementThe Leadership Quarterly, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Psychological Bulletin, Journal of Experimental Psychology, and Human Relations. Our work has often been featured in major media, including ABC News, SBS, The Australian Financial Review, 3AW Melbourne, Human Resources Director and The Conversation.
