During the 3-4 years of your PhD, you will complete either a singular monograph thesis (roughly 80,000 words) or a thesis by manuscript (3 manuscripts submittable to academic journals). The choice is yours.
The coursework is designed to widen your knowledge, to place your specialised research project within a border disciplinary context, and to enhance your research skills.
You will complete a unit on the Philosophy of Research and one of either Advanced Quantitative Research Methods or Advanced Qualitative Research Methods.
These subjects are designed to ensure you have the theoretical background to harvest the knowledge you need from advanced graduate-level content.
Progress through the PhD is evaluated at three milestones to help ensure all students complete their studies.
Milestones are an opportunity to receive critical feedback on your project from academics external to your supervisory team, and provide a forum to acquire research presentation skills.
Engagement in the intellectual and academic life of the Department is an important aspect of your candidature. This includes seminars by doctoral candidates, international visitors, and our academic staff.
In addition to improving your own intellectual capital, it provides you with opportunities to network and present to supportive staff.
