Confirmation 

Oral Presentation
Maximum 20 minutes duration, focusing on project background and scope, aims, theory, methodology and design.

Written Submission
Document of 7,000 words including:

  • Faculty template cover page (including generative AI acknowledgement)
  • Table of contents
  • Statement of research problem/s. This may include:
    • Introduction
    • Research questions or hypothesis
    • Significance/expected outcomes of the study
  • Literature review of relevant research
  • Theoretical framework
  • Methodology. This may include:
    • Research design
    • Analytical techniques, methods
    • Ethical considerations
  • Timeline for project completion/statement of progress to date
  • Proposed project structure (e.g., draft chapter outline, draft project phase)
  • Reference list
  • Glossary of terms (if deemed necessary)

Students must submit their written work to the panel at least one week prior to the presentation.

Total word count excludes the cover page, AI acknowledgement, table of contents, reference list and glossary.

Note: Students intending to prepare and submit a thesis including published works should include demonstration of, or a statement of progress towards such publications in the written submission

Transfer to PhD

Students wanting to transfer from a Master of Philosophy to a doctoral degree can do so in the period between 9 and 12 months (full-time equivalent) following the commencement of your candidature, provided:

  • You have met the confirmation requirements of the relevant doctoral degree prior to the transfer
  • Your transfer request has been supported by your supervisor
  • The panel members are satisfied that your confirmation milestone has been successfully completed to the standard of a PhD and they recommend the transfer.

Progress review

Oral Presentation
Maximum 20 minutes duration, describing project in detail.

Written Submission

  • Progress report of 1,500-2,000 words including:
    • Faculty template cover page (including generative AI acknowledgement)
    • Contextualising statement or draft abstract
    • Response to previous panel comments and suggestions
    • Detailed chapter outlines
    • Detailed timeline for completion
  • One complete draft chapter of thesis (approx. 7,000 words) demonstrating significant research, for example: literature review, philosophical chapter, methodology or findings/results chapter.

Students must submit their written work to the panel at least one week prior to the presentation.

Total word count excludes the cover page and AI acknowledgement.
