Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) - Direct Entry

The Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) course is a five-year program of study with direct entry from high school. The first two years are campus based and the final three years are hospital and community based.

The course is focussed on preparing graduates for medical practice and presents a continually expanding level of medical experience, starting in the first semester of the course. In the early years, the basic medical sciences are taught in the context of their relevance to patient care. Later in the course, clinical teaching builds upon and reinforces this strong scientific foundation. An emphasis on clinical communication skills and early clinical contact visits to medical practices, community care facilities and hospitals, is a feature of the Monash course.

The course will focus on the foundations of medicine including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Neurosciences, as well as intensive clinical training in all disciplines including Medicine, Surgery, Women's and Children's Health, Mental Health, Primary Health and Rural Health. Available to both Australian and international students, our program is designed for those committed to professional training, academic excellence as well as personal and professional development.

On completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) you are eligible for provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Medical Board of Australia. After serving a compulsory internship year of residence in an approved hospital, you become eligible for final registration in Victoria and other states of Australia.
