Clinical Placements
Years 3B, 4C and 5D are the clinical years of the Monash medicine program. During this time, you will spend around 40 hours per week on placement across hospitals and clinical sites affiliated with our four partner Clinical Schools.
Placements are designed to build your clinical knowledge and skills through hands-on learning. With opportunities across metropolitan Melbourne and rural Victoria, you'll gain experience in a range of healthcare settings while learning from experienced clinicians.
How placement allocation works
Clinical placements are allocated in the year before you commence each clinical year through a two-phase allocation process in InPlace.
Before submitting your preferences, review the Allocation Timeline for important dates, including when each submission phase opens. If you don’t submit your preferences by the deadline, your placement will be allocated at random.
Placements are allocated based on:
- your placement preferences
- approved special requirements
- your home address recorded in the Web Enrolment System (WES)
- available places at each Clinical School.
While every effort is made to accommodate your preferences, placements are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Placement swaps are not permitted during Phase 1 of the allocation process. During Phase 2, students may discuss potential swaps with their allocated Clinical School, where opportunities are available.
All placements remain provisional until academic results are released. Monash Medical School reserves the right to adjust allocations where required.
